Higher Education Co. is one of the nation’s top 10 higher education providers, offering more than 300 degrees across five campuses to students from 124 countries. With over 5000 staff members, it is a large multi-campus institution with internationally recognised strengths in teaching and research. It is ranked in the top 300 universities globally and is regarded as one of the most innovative and influential universities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Higher Education Co. sought to rapidly establish a mature enterprise architecture capability to enable the university to deal with rapid change in the sector and provide guidance for initiatives in data management, SOA and security. Recognising that traditional training can deliver theory with limited practice, Higher Education Co. sought a customised architecture training experience supported by on-site guidance and mentoring that would rapidly establish a level of architectural self-sufficiency.

EA delivered customised TOGAF 9 Level 1 & 2 training to the newly formed architecture team. This was followed with an intensive 6 week mentoring of the team in development of baseline architecture artefacts in support of the Enterprise Architecture, comprising business, data, application and technology architectures. EA provided regular assessment of enterprise architecture evolution and maturity to track progress against objectives and configured and populated the Enterprise Architecture Repository. Finally, EA provided Higher Education Co. with a roadmap for further architecture capability development.

Higher Education Co. achieved its goals to establish an architecture team confident in the use of TOGAF®, with clearly defined accountabilities, available governance structures, and a clear articulation of the baseline enterprise architecture focussed on stakeholder needs and concerns. The Higher Education Co. team became totally self-sufficient and was able to deliver subsequent architecture initiatives independently.
