Travel Co. is part of an international travel and tourism group which delivers package holidays to customers in Europe and operates an airline to fly them to their destinations. It is one of the largest travel companies in this market and operates one of Europe’s most popular travel web sites alongside a physical network of shops.

Travel Co. was embarking on a major upgrade of systems and processes with the objective of transforming towards a multi-channel mode of operation and significantly enhancing its internet presence. It therefore needed to develop a forward-facing strategy and establish an enterprise architecture function to guide the transformation.

Enterprise Architects supported Travel Co. over an extended period and multiple objectives which evolved as the transformation program took shape. EA developed an IT strategy and formed an enterprise architecture team which then went on to oversee the creation of solution architectures for the transformation platform. A second thread of work led the business in the redefinition of the program and the business process definition and change required to achieve the multi-channel vision. Finally, EA provided interim and permanent staffing for the enterprise and solution architecture teams.

Deliverables produced over an 18-month period included:

  • IT Strategy for it’s largest operating unit.
  • Enterprise architectures for applications, information and infrastructure domains.
  • Business definition statements for the transformation program.
  • Solution architectures supporting the transformation program.

Travel Co. have successfully implemented many aspects of the IT Strategy. The architecture function is now an acknowledged part of the way they do business and govern their IT. The transformation program has been able to deliver business improvements enabled by the new technology platform with focus upon improving sales via an engaging online experience.
